Understanding the Multiple-Intelligence Framework2016-10-15
Most parents and even some teachers wonder why there are kids who learn faster than others. Often than not, they say that all these children learned the same things together and start to think why some don’t understand the lesson, while the rest of them performed better. Then they adjust and present the same things in a different way and get surprised with better results from the children who initially found the topic incomprehensible.
Howard Gardner, a Harvard University professor designed a theory about “Multiple Intelligences.” His theory states that different intelligences require different means of stimulation. Thus, understanding that children have different learning styles and aptitudes are of great importance.
According to Gardner, learning styles are the ways in which an individual approaches a range of tasks. He categorized these tasks in different ways, some of which are—tactile, kinesthetic, visual and auditory.
1、Tactile learners are those who learn better when they touch or feel objects around them.
2、Kinesthetic learners are learners who learn more from bodily movements and sensory experiences.
3、Visual learners appreciate seeing things and learn faster by the use of different pictures, maps, books or videos they see.
4、Auditory learners are children who learn better through listening. They make and produce meaning from different types of sounds they hear.
We at Talent Academy believe that no child should be left behind especially in the classroom. We understand that there are different types of learners. With this in mind, our curriculum was designed with different activities suitable for all. We understand that more learning happens when more senses are utilized.
